The Old Post Office Postcard Company

Connecting you to history, one image at a time.

U.S. Post Office Building, McCook, Nebraska

For over 25 years, Old Post Office Postcard Company has been dedicated to the preservation, research, and appreciation of vintage postcards, photographs, and historic paper ephemera. Whether you’re a collector, historian, genealogist, or simply someone who enjoys discovering the stories of the past, we’re here to help you find your own piece of history.

The Building That Inspired the Name

The story of Old Post Office Postcard Company begins with one of Nebraska’s most recognizable historic landmarks.

Built in 1916 from Indiana limestone, the United States Post Office and Federal Building in McCook, Nebraska served generations of postal customers while also housing the Federal Court for Western Nebraska. For decades it stood as one of the most important public buildings in Southwest Nebraska and remains an enduring symbol of the community’s history.

Today, that same building inspires our mission: preserving history one postcard at a time.

How it got it’s name

The postcard business began inside the historic Old Post Office building owned by David and Sharon Huegel, Nathan’s parents. While they lived on the upper floor and operated their antique business from the building, Nathan established his office and apartment on the second floor—in what had once served as the old Postal Inspector’s office.

The name Old Post Office Postcard Company was chosen as a tribute to the building where the business was born and to the history it represents.

Every Collection Has a Beginning

Growing up in an antique-dealing family, history and collecting were always a part of life. Nathan Huegel’s parents had been active in the antique business since the 1970s, and family trips often revolved around flea markets, antique shows, historical museums, and roadside historical markers.

While living in Kansas City around 1997, Nathan attended a flea market and stopped at a dealer’s booth filled with old postcards. Knowing that his mother had collected postcards of his parents hometowns and of McCook, Nebraska, he began looking through the boxes.

Before long, he discovered a postcard depicting the historic Old Post Office building in McCook—the same building that housed his parents’ antique business. That postcard became the first piece in what would eventually become a lifelong passion.

Meet The Owner

Hello, I’m Nathan Huegel. The Old Post Office Postcard Company isn’t a large staff or corporate office — just a lifelong collector who still gets excited when an interesting postcard turns up in a box I’m looking through. After the years of shows, the digging, and the hundreds of thousands of cards that have passed through my hands, there’s really just one guy who loves history, old postcards, and the stories they represent.

Since beginning as a collector and dealer in 1999, I’ve handled hundreds of thousands of postcards, photographs, and paper ephemera — buying and selling through antique shows, postcard shows across the Great Plains, mail-order, online marketplaces, and my own websites. While much of the business is now online, local shows remain an important part of staying connected with fellow collectors.

Serving Collectors for More Than 25 Years

The business specializes in Nebraska views, real photo postcards, and historic Americana, but maintains an extensive inventory representing other U.S. states and topics.

With an inventory exceeding 200,000 postcards, photographs, and related paper collectibles, our online inventory represents only a small portion of the material available.

Nebraska Views Small towns, main streets, buildings, railroads, businesses, and community history.
Real Photo Postcards Original photographic postcards preserving people, places, and events.
General Postcards Holiday cards, advertising, transportation, occupations, animals, sports, social history, and more.

More Than a Business

One of the greatest rewards of the hobby has never been the postcards themselves. It has been the people.

Over the years, many customers who first purchased a postcard have become longtime friends. Some are collectors searching for a difficult town view. Others are historians researching a community, genealogists tracing family roots, or individuals looking for a meaningful connection to the past.

Helping collectors locate a long-sought postcard, complete a set, or reconnect with a piece of personal history remains one of the most rewarding aspects of the business.

Our Approach

We have always believed in treating people fairly, conducting business honestly, and building long-term relationships with fellow collectors as well as promoting the collecting of postcards.

If we have not had the opportunity to do business with you yet, we hope to help you acquire a piece of history for your collection.

Our Mission

Our goal is for Old Post Office Postcard Company to be more than just an online store.

We hope to create a destination for collectors, historians, genealogists, researchers, and anyone interested in America’s past—a place where historic images can be preserved, researched, shared, and appreciated by future generations.

Whether you are searching for a Nebraska real photo postcard, a favorite holiday theme, advertising, transportation, sports, animals, occupations, social history, or simply the town where your family once lived, we hope you’ll enjoy your visit and discover a piece of history that speaks to you.

Every postcard has a story. We’re honored to help preserve them.
